Organisations you can support
This blog looks at the types of institution we can support in order to help mitigate climate catastrophe…. Should you also not want to see beyond the birds and the bees…

One of the great issues facing us is that things that have inherent value to us as humans: breathable air, pollinating insects, availability of water, and healthy disease resistant ecosystems have no monetary value in our global commerce system.
While one can talk about the pros and cons of living in a pure capitalist society – the only immediate alternative is to monetise these things and to support organisations that lobby for their protection.
The world land trust, is an organisation who use funds to buy land, so that others cannot buy it and destroy it. In a capital-based society this needs capital so please consider donating to them.

Over the past few years several high-profile legal cases have been brought against governments and companies within Europe to force them to make greater changes in how they operate with respect to the climate emergency.
Some examples include:
Milieudefensie v. Shell case in the Netherlands
Various campaigners v. The German Government
The Good Law Project v. The British Government on various cases
And in the USA the organisation Earth Justice has emerged as a legal fighting cause for the planet in the court rooms.

Legal challenges are expensive (The UK government recently put £600,000 into defending a legal case against TGLP in one of it’s Covid PPE malpractice cases) and in particular the risk of loosing often means that the loosing side pay the costs of the wining side. You can look into what organisations support legal environmental cases in your country and lend them some

Other environmental charities lobby governments to create or amend legislation. These range from global issues to local interest groups, but all of them require financial support.

Of course not everyone has spare cash kicking around to donate, but there is the option of volunteering or even just sharing posts on social media. Every little helps.
