About These Southern Lands
These Southern Lands are a musical collective based in Glasgow Scotland (but shortly bound for Brooklyn NYC) lead by Duncan Sutherland. We create music to reflect on the Climate Crisis that hangs over our planet. With the seal on the end of the vast majority of life on earth coming ever closer, what better use of music than art to reflect on the rather self-centred relationship we have with our home, and the many parallels there are to other failed relationships in our lives.
The music is a call to reflect on the moment we’re in. The moment you’re in. The world we’ve built that encourages suicidal apathy and whether we’re actual kind of OK with that. It’s not a call to any political ideology, it’s not a guilt trip, it’s just a look around where we are.
The music is primarily synth and electronic there are splashes of a variety of popular and orchestral instruments and These Southern Lands are very lucky to have so many wonderful talent musicians offer their skills to the project. Unlike most music projects, These Southern Lands was not created with the idea of live music in mind, having mostly been written over the Covid-19 Pandemic. However, we’re always exploring ways to make things work in a live setting.
We don’t know where These Southern Lands will go next, but if you’ve enjoyed our music please let us know! If you’d like to work with us on something let us know. If you want to talk about climate change and solutions, get in touch. If you want us to find a way to play this stuff live let us know. You can get in touch here on the site or via our various social media pages.
